Your guide to D-Mannose
Posted on October 25 2021
Urinary tract infections are at best annoying, and at their worst can be painful and frustrating. Fortunately, D-mannose is a way of fighting back and could help you to get on with your day. Here we’ve covered what you need to know about this natural supplement in one handy article.
What is D-Mannose?
D-mannose is a simple type of raw sugar that can be found in several fruits, vegetables and plants. Your body can also make small amounts of it naturally. D-mannose is very similar to glucose as it only has one molecule. However, unlike glucose your body doesn’t metabolise D-mannose in the same way, so it doesn’t directly affect your blood sugar levels or provide energy to use.
How does it work?
Urinary tract infections can often be difficult to treat with antibiotics alone, especially for recurrent infections. The E-coli type bacteria that cause the infections stick to your bladder and urinary tract and can be difficult to get rid of. Because D-mannose passes through your kidneys and into your bladder without breaking down, it coats the bacteria and flushes it away.
How to take D-Mannose
If you’ve been struggling with UTI’s then it may be worth giving D-mannose powder or tablets a try. Our pure D-mannose powder is free from fillers and flow agents and comes with a free measuring scoop inside every pouch. Or you may prefer to have pressed tablets for convenience, especially for when you’re out and about.
For a standard maintenance dose we recommend taking 1 gram of D-mannose in the morning, and another in the evening. This is equivalent to 2 scoops of powder, or 1 tablet, twice a day. For more urgent relief, we recommend taking 2 grams of D-mannose every 3 to 4 hours – equivalent to 4 scoops or 2 tablets.
What to remember
Many of us will know how annoying and uncomfortable urinary tract infections are. While nothing can completely prevent a UTI, D-mannose is a natural way to get rid of frustrating infections and maintain your bladder health.
